Disability Training/Workshops from Bridge The Gap

These are some of the possible presentations on offer. They can all be expanded, added together or combined to provide a tailor made option to suit your requirements. If you don't see exactly what you're looking for, just ask and we can probably come up with something to fit the bill.

  • Option 1: Attracting and keeping customers with disabilities
    Advice on making your meeting with disabled customers run smoothly is given in a workshop style including myths and facts about disability, an image exercise and practical tips.
    Programme to last about 1 hour.

 

  • Option 2: Creating a level playing field
    A workshop highlighting equal opportunities and the particular needs of people with disabilities. This provides you with opportunities to confront your own attitudes and abilities whilst developing a greater understanding and awareness.
    Programme to last about 90 minutes.

 

  • Option 3: Disability - What Does it Mean?
    Taking each letter of the word "Disability" we present key issues featuring, to a greater or lesser extent, in the lives of people with disabilities, in an informative and entertaining manner.
    A talk to last approximately forty minutes.

 

  • Option 4: By the grace of God I am what I am
    A talk based upon an article written for the Social Workers Christian Fellowship journal, looking at how Christians with disabilities are as much a part of the Lord's body as those without disabilities and can be equally involved in the work of God's kingdom.
    A talk to last about 40 minutes.

 

  • Option 5: How best to help people with disabilities.
    A workshop style presentation especially geared towards those who work in the voluntary sector. This will entertain you as well as make you think and will provide a wealth of practical tips.
    Programme to last about 90 minutes.

 

  • Option 6: Returning the compliment
    A short talk presenting ways in which carers' stress may be relieved by focusing on developing the skills and gifts of people with disabilities, and using outside agencies and services imaginatively to increase the contribution a person with a disability can make to his/her family/society with adequate support.

 

  • Option 7: Dovetailing the Community - Where do I fit in?
    A workshop style presentation helping disabled people to develop self confidence and other skills needed to enable them to fit more comfortably in the community.
    Programme to be delivered over approximately 10 sessions of 2 hours.

 

  • Option 8: Introducing the Disability Discrimination Act
    Providing information on the legal implications of the act and many practical tips for ensuring it is adhered to.
    Programme to last anything from 30 minutes to a half or full day workshop as required.

 

  • Option 9: Access Audit
    An initial access audit covering entrances, equipment, facilities, information in alternative formats, staff attitudes and awareness, etc
    Personal visit plus follow up report.

 

  • Option 10: Disability Etiquette
    A challenging and amusing presentation about the intercourse between able bodied and disabled people.
    To last about half an hour.

 

  • Option 11: Employment Issues
    Examining the issues surrounding the employment of disabled people.
    Presentation to last about an hour.

 

  • Option 12: Living with a disability.
    Talk covering the issues of loss and bereavement in disability.
    To last about an hour.

 

  • Option 13: Models of disability.
    Presentation covering the different perceptions of disability.
    To last about an hour.

 

  • Option 14: Six stages of a determined Welshman.
    Autobiographical account of how a fulfilling social life can be achieved through persistence and the support of others.
    Talk to last about an hour.

     

  • OptionĀ  15: Transports of Delight.
    A humorous presentation, with a nod to Flanders and Swann, of anecdotes based on personal experiences with a range of conveyances, raising disability issues. To last about an hour.
